I am the proud owner of one super-oily visage. I used to fret and blot, blot, blot incessantly but one day I looked at my 70+ year old mother, owner of a similar oily visage, and realized she didn't have a wrinkle of which to speak. Sure, genetics and chubby cheeks help plump up the crevices but, oil...it does wonders for the skin. It keeps dry skin full of moisture and prevents oily skin from producing even more sebum, which clogs pores. Once I learned this, I threw away my blotting papers and never looked back.
I've tried a few face oils, but my all-time favorite is relatively new to my beauty den: Rodin Olio Lusso. Those who know me, understand the root of my obsession lies in my love for and adoration of this brand's founder, Linda Rodin. However, be assured, I can separate the woman from the oil.
RODIN Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil ($170 for 1 fl oz.) - Before we get started, I'll acknowledge the price here is steep, especially when you learn Linda Rodin created the proprietary blend by mixing oils in her bathroom. However, when you use just two drops on your face and inhale the intoxicating neroli scent, you understand. You really do. I use this at night only, taking two of the tiniest drops on cleansed skin, dotting on my cheeks and massaging while deeply inhaling all 11 floral essential oils. The oil will absorb quickly and keep your skin quenched throughout the night while repairing and regenerating. If your skin is dry, you can add a moisturizer or night cream after application. If your skin is Mohave desert dry, you can use this morning and night. If you're really into a dewy complexion, you can even add a drop in tour your foundation or tinted moisturizer for a dewy skin finish.
Caution, if you don't like heady, white florals or strong scents, steer clear of this product. It contains neroli (i.e. orange blossom), sunflower, calendula flower (i.e. marigold) oils, arnica montana flower extract, rose hip oil, sweet almond oil, argan oil, evening primrose oil, jojoba, apricot and jasmine. This scent isn't for the faint of heart.
Lastly, if you treat yourself to this indulgent face oil, please store it in a cool, dark place. It's clear, glass packaging makes the product susceptible to light that can break down the ingredients.
Interested in face oil but not-so-interested in choosing between paying your heating bill or buying one? That's okay! There are many options. Below are two others that have kept my face shiny and happy.
Josie Maran 100 percent Pure Argan Oil ($40 for 1.7 fl oz.) - Perhaps the most well-known face oil, there is one ingredient: Argan Oil. This product offers less moisturization than RODIN Olio Lusso and may work well for those who don't like the feeling of oil on their face. And, to warm your heart, all argan oil used in this product is purchased from women's cooperative in Morocco, which also work to ensure the argan oil is responsibly harvested. You can't ask for much more.
Fresh Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil ($52 for 1.6 fl oz.) - This is a heavy-duty oil that should only be used by those with dry skin or normal skin that veers towards dryness, especially during the winter months. One to two drops of this oil will coat the entire face and absorb rather quickly. Fresh claims sea berry is a miracle ingredient that is used in some parts of the world to heal burns. I can't claim it healed the scar from my latest stress zit but I did wake up with skin as smooth as a baby's bum.
